artist statement
My work matters deeply, not just to me but to those who experience it. I hope viewers recognize echoes of their own emotions in the subtle stories my art tells. Through recurring motifs from my personal narrative, energetic brushwork that captures movement, and the thoughtful use of negative space, each piece maps out a distinct journey. Every piece stands as a testament to resilience, showing how challenges can nurture inner strength. Although the surface may appear chaotic, every color and space is carefully considered, while spontaneous drips and sprays of paint invite both chaos and tranquility to coexist.

biography
Laura Irmis, M.A. Ed., was raised in a lively Florida household where music and art filled the air, sparking her lifelong fascination with creative expression. While earning her B.A. in visual arts at Eckerd College, she fueled her passion as a guest artist with Creative Clay  and took on the role of artist-in-residence at Craftsman House Gallery in 2006. Her journey led her to work alongside renowned ceramicist Charlie Parker., where she thrived as a ceramics instructor, studio manager, and curator of the cherished Trust Birth Art Show, as well as other celebrated local exhibitions.

currently
In 2024, Laura earned her Master of Art in Education while inspiring students as an art teacher in Pinellas County. By 2025, her creative spirit demanded the spotlight, prompting her to step away from teaching and fully immerse herself in her own art. Laura’s work features recurring motifs drawn from her personal narrative, expressive brushwork also seen in her paintings, and bold negative space influenced by her graphic design background. Her art traces the paths that shape us on our unique journeys. Each piece affirms resilience, illustrating how adversity can foster inner strength. Laura finds beauty in chaos, letting it fuel her imagination instead of allowing order to confine her.

Her work is sold at the Morean Arts Center, Atelier,
The Merchant and The ArtBox in St. Augustine. She has been a guest twice on the Podcast (Art of Ed) for The Art of Education University on an expert episode focused on teaching ceramics.
